7 Foods That Make Your Skin Happy and Healthy!
You know the saying that “you are what you eat?” We know it’s true because when we eat right, we feel better. But it goes even further than that. It turns out that your dietary habits can impact the health of your skin in surprising ways. Did you know consuming high-glycemic foods that spike your blood sugar levels, such as sugar, flour, rice, and cereal, can contribute to acne? High blood sugar spikes oil gland activity, a main acne culprit. On the flip side, there’s a bounty of beneficial foods that can help you maintain luminous, glowing skin. Check out these seven skin-friendly foods which science has shown to help: Oats contain a plant chemical that helps prevent skin cell damage and soothes irritation. Oats have a low glycemic index, so they won’t spike your blood sugar and, consequently, oil gland activity. Oranges are chock-full of water to hydrate skin. They’re also an excellent source of vitamin C, which helps make collagen to keep skin supple. You really can’t go wrong with any fruit or veggie. Go for color variety so you get a variety of nutrients. Avocados are full of the healthy fat—monounsaturated. This fat offers too many health benefits to list, but we can say that it helps your skin stay hydrated while boosting your vitamin and nutrient absorption. Lean beef offers high-quality protein, which helps build collagen. Other awesome protein foods include eggs, chicken, tofu, beans, and fish. Brussels sprouts are a great source of folate and vitamins A and C. Vitamin A and folate can prevent sun damage for a more even skin tone, and vitamin C is a collagen booster.Salmon is packed with omega-3 fatty acids, which may halt skin cancer cells, according to recent research. Grapes, or more specifically, the grape skin, contains resveratrol, which can fight inflammation and may slow the aging process. This handy ingredient may also protect the skin from harmful UV light. Eat your way to luminous skin this spring, and don’t forget to share this post with anyone else who might want beautiful skin!

Learn moreWhat's Your Skin Concern?
These may be some of the first questions that you are asked by your dermatologist, and they could be the most important. Reading between the lines of your skin’s behaviors is what any good skin therapist knows how to do. It is best to stay well informed on what various skin behaviors mean before heading to your next appointment. We’ll delve into some common skincare myths such as dry vs. dehydrated skin, how young you should start anti-aging practices and why caring for the skin seems complicated but is truly simple at the heart of it. Dry (lacking oil) Dry and dehydrated skin are often mixed up. Dry skin is where the oil that usually rests on the surface of the skin making up what is called an ‘acid mantle.’ If the acid mantle is not strong, the skin’s natural water retention levels will suffer, resulting in dry skin, as evidenced by the appearance of rough, flakey skin and even the look of premature aging. Dehydrated Dehydrated skin on the other hand is lacking in water content to begin with. In other words, the skin’s acid mantle may be in tact, but the water levels in the skin are lower than average. Dehydrated skin is characterized by fine lines and wrinkles and is easily alleviated with use of hydration boosting products and ingredients like hyaluronic acid, Vitamin E, peptides and so forth. Environ’s daily moisturizers are full of skin-loving hydrating ingredients such as Vitamins A, C, E, peptides, antioxidants, and growth factors. But if this is not enough hydration for an individual, there are some helpful booster products includuing Hydrating Oil Capsules, Super Moisturizer + as well as Focus Hydrating Serum. Aging As we all age, the epidermal layer of the skin becomes thinner, making fine lines and wrinkles more apparent and easily formable. Pigmentation and sunspots are sometimes apparent in addition to volume loss or dullness. Lastly, oil production often decreases with age. All areas of the face can demonstrate signs of aging, however, these signs tend to first develop around the eyes and sides of the mouth. Addressing these concerns should be a daily effort comprised of powerful skin loving ingredients and certain targeted treatments, depending on the individual’s concerns. Use of daily sunscreen and a concentrated Vitamin A-based serum will be an integral part of the skin care regimen for this skin concern. Find more products for aging skin concern here. Redness Redness of the skin can be caused by internal or external factors such as too much sun exposure or stress. To address redness, a daily gentle cleansing routine is essential in addition to a proper daily moisturizer to help even out the look of uneven skin tone and over time improve the overall appearance of even skin tone. Occasional Breakouts And Congestion Not exfoliating regularly enough is a very common reason for the occasional break-out and congested skin concern. Environ’s Alpha Hydroxy Cream, Alpha Hydroxy Gel, Revival Masque or the At Home Peel Kit can all address this common need effortlessly with the simple addition of one step to the daily skin care routine. Problematic Skin The bane of every prepubescent teen and even some adult’s life, acne or problematic skin is a common and stress-inducing skin concern for many. An overproduction of male hormones, sebum and the subsequent clogging of pores due to this overproduction is the reason that leads to breakouts, inflammation and other visible characteristics of this skin concern. Vitamin A is the most researched skin care ingredient associated with helping with the look of problematic skin. A skin expert can recommend a timetable for the specific type of Vitamin A products to start out on as well as when to graduate to other products and necessary treatments. Not everyone’s skin will be characterized by only one concern, and that is why proper skin care is so personal. Dermatologists and skin professionals can help customize and proper regimen to address any and all concerns that an individual may have. What can be predicted is that they will recommend daily use of sunscreen as well as using effective at-home products regularly. Though there are countless choices out there in the skincare industry, a consistent, high-quality product line and a strong brand with proven results will get you closer to the results that you’re looking for. Learn moreSummer Skin Care Woes To Avoid
Each season brings new challenges and new opportunities to care for the skin a little differently. In the sunny summer months, sunscreen use is usually the main event in skin care blogs, but that’s not the only thing to keep in mind! Here are the top mistakes to avoid: Forgetting Sunscreen If you don’t use makeup, finding a daily sunscreen is all you have to worry about before heading out the door. For those who do wear cover-up try to find one that offers sun protection. Broad spectrum coverage in makeup is hard to find though, so consider applying Environ broad spectrum sunscreen first as your ‘primer’ and apply your foundation afterwards. Only Applying Sunscreen On The Face Oh, you thought we were done talking about sunscreen? Haha no. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to your neck and decollete as well as easily forgotten areas like around the ears, back of the neck, legs, and feet. Those areas are highly visible and all susceptible to sunburn. Using Sunlight To ‘Heal’ The Look Of Problematic Skin Though the sun may seem to temporarily ‘heal’ the look of problematic skin, unprotected skin can become dry and increasingly prone to breakouts. Consistent use of an Environ Vitamin A moisturizer along with broad spectrum sun protection are advised for problematic skin types as well as for all skin types. One may consider using the Environ B-active range, as it was especially designed for problematic or sensitive skin. Not Exfoliating Gentle exfoliating is an essential part of maintaining beautiful skin year round, and that goes for summer too. The buildup of sweat, sunscreen, sand and other environmental debris increase the likeliness of clogged pores and future breakouts. Some chemical-based exfoliators make the skin slightly more photosensitive after using, so never forget step #1... Leaving Your Accessories At Home Hat, sunglasses, scarves, and UV protective shirts are all smart choices when it comes to staying sun safe. Plus, with the array of fashionable options available, you don’t have to tell us twice to grab our favorite sun accessories! Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! In extreme temperatures (hot or cold), the body works extra hard to maintain its equilibrium. That means extra hydration (H20) and topical skin care solutions become important to keeping the look of healthy, glowing skin. Two ‘hero’ Environ products to mix with your daily moisturizer include Super Moisturizer + or the Hydrating Oil Capsules. Scratching Bug Bites Just like it’s not okay to scratch break-outs or cystic pimples, it’s not a good idea to scratch or pick at bug bites. This could result in bacteria and infections getting into the skin, prolonging the skin’s automatic healing process. Ice, anti-itch creams or covering the bite-area are the best steps to prevent the oh-so-tempting urge to scratch. Even better, use bug spray or protective clothing to prevent bites. The Feet Get The Heat Try our fail-proof regimen for beautiful looking ‘summer-feet’ about once a week. This regimen is great year-round but especially when you get to show off in your favorite sandals during the warmer months. Soak feet in a tub of warm water, adding a few drops of tea tree oil Scrub feet until they feel smooth with the Environ AVST Hydrating Exfoliant Masque; Rinse off Finally, massage feet with a combination of Derma-Lac Lotion and Vitamin A, C & E Body Oil. Wrap feet with plastic film and wait 20 minutes before removing. Learn moreThe Correct Order to Apply Skin Care Products
For clients that are brand new to the skin care world, the looming amount of options can be overwhelming. Not only is there an unlimited number of brands to choose from, but after choosing, you must then decide which products to use and in what order to apply them! We’re here to answer that last part of your dilemma. Assuming you’ve adopted Environ products into your life, we’ll explore the reasons for applying products in a particular way. And yes, the order in which you apply your skin care products does matter. :) Starting Simple The basic healthy-looking skin Environ motto is “Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize, Protect,” and remains the recommended routine for beginning skin care enthusiasts. However, for those of you who want and are ready for a more advanced skin care solutions, you know this short motto is missing a few key steps. Our full routine includes: Pre-Cleanse/Makeup Removal Cleanse Tone Roll Eye Gel Serum Moisturize Overnight Masks (PM only) Protect (AM only) Let’s go further in depth for each of these steps! Still with us? Is Pre-Cleansing Necessary? Pre-Cleansing may be a necessary part of any skin care routine for those who wear makeup or if you’re exposed to an excessive amount of environmental pollutants that day. Environ’s lightweight Makeup Remover or the heavy-duty Pre-Cleanse Oil are wonderful assets for this initial step in your skincare routine. For those with particularly large-appearing pores and for those in need of a gentle exfoliation, the Pre-Cleanse Oil + AVST Hydrating Exfoliant Masque* combination will suit you very well for this first step in your skincare routine. Cleansing Environ’s gentle cleansers are made to gently remove surface dirt and debris without drying or stripping away the skin’s natural barrier. They are definitely not your average cleansers. After using an Environ cleanser for the first time, you will be amazed that your skin will feel neither “tight” nor “squeaky clean” but instead appear and feel hydrated and fresh-looking. To Tone or Not To Tone A great toner should work in synergy with your other products to assist with the appearance of better-hydrated, healthy-looking and even-toned skin. Whether you use AVST Hydrating Toner, SebuTone or the C-Quence Toner, you are ensuring that your skin is sufficiently clear of any surface debris or make-up and perfectly prepped for the next step. Rollin’ In The Deep For those of you that already have a Cosmetic CIT-Roller or a Gold Roller, you know that this carefully made skincare tool allows us the opportunity to “boost” the efficacy of our topical products to the next level. The tiny microneedles assist with your product's effectiveness and only takes a minute or two out of your entire day. The proper way to “roll” each area of the face is vertically, horizontally and then diagonally each for 30-40 seconds with medium pressure, and should be part of your evening routine ONLY! Post toning and rolling, you’re ready for any masks, intensive products, eye gels and moisturizers. At-Home Masks Or Peels The exfoliating Environ Revival Masque, brightening C-Quence Energizing Masque, or the resurfacing, at-home LACM peel should be applied and left on the skin according to their respective instructions. Remove the mask as recommended and you will be ready to move on with the rest of your normal routine. For greater insight on the benefits of each mask, visit our website’s product information page. The Revival Mask can also be applied as an overnight mask, after applying your eye gel and moisturizer. The AVST Hydrating Exfoliant Masque can also be used after you tone and roll the skin OR as part of your pre-cleansing regimen for improvement in the appearance of your pores. The Eyes Say It All: Eye Gels & Serums After toning or using an at-home mask or peel, it is now the appropriate time to apply serums or eye gels. Typically speaking, serums as well as eye serums are a lighter consistency than moisturizing creams, thus they will absorb quicker and should be applied first. As a rule of thumb, one should apply products in order from ‘lightest’ to ‘heaviest.’ Where To Insert Intensive “Booster” Products A few products in the Intensive Range can be applied as more of “spot” treatments, such as the C-Boost Vitamin-C rich cream. In that case, apply only where desired, and then follow with your moisturizer. Moisturizing booster products such as Super Moisturizer + or the Hydrating Oil Capsules can be mixed with your Vit A moisturizer OR spot-applied to especially dry areas such as the forehead, nose, or mouth areas. On dry days, either cold or hot, apply these moisturizing boosters in the evening to help the appearance of fresh, repaired-looking skin overnight. Ahh, Finally. The Moisturizer Your Environ Vitamin A moisturizer is the climax of your skin care routine. It is during this step that you are nourishing your skin with essential Vitamins A, C, E, peptides, antioxidants, and growth factors which are crucial components to maintaining the look of youthful skin over your lifetime. This remains true whether you are using the AVST, B-activ or Ionzyme Range moisturizers. The moisturizing step is usually everyone’s last and final step in their nighttime regimen. The fun part about this moisturizing step is that you can mix your favorite serums such as Avance DFP or a Retinol serum to create a customized solution with added benefits. Each intensive product addresses specific concerns, so you can find information on each one on our website. For additional insight, you should ask your local skin professional which one he or she thinks you can add to your “moisturize” step. During the day, you will follow this step with your daily broad spectrum SPF, another crucial step towards maintaining healthy-looking skin. Don’t Be Overwhelmed Believe it or not, our typical night routine takes no more than 5-10 minutes! In an event you forget a step or run out of one of your products, carry on with your steps as best you can. Over time, you’ll be surprised how adept you’ll become with the order and your routine as you gain practice each morning and evening. Learn moreWhat is the Essence of Beauty?
What is the essence of beauty? Long hair? Eyes? Shape? Science would suggest that a number of biological factors contribute to what different societies recognize as “beautiful.” Such factors include the waist-hip-bust ratio, facial symmetry, lush hair; However the most noticeable part of the body is often unmentioned in these studies. It is our largest organ, the skin. Certain skin conditions are determined by our DNA, but we know that environmental factors also play a large role in the appearance of healthy-looking skin. Over the past two decades, Environ Skin Care has been a leader in creating the most innovative and advanced techniques to combat the effects of environmental factors like sun damage and pollution to make clear, youthful-looking skin attainable for any skin type at any age. The Skin Speaks Volumes Whether it is your skin that is exposed on the legs, midsections, arms, the neck, or the face, it is important to care for the appearance of your skin over the lifespan by using sunscreen and effective skin care products daily. Despite the multitude of issues that may affect the appearance of the skin such as teenage acne, dryness, oiliness, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, cellulite, wrinkles, thinning, etc, there are preventative methods can address all of these common, universal issues. Armor for the Skin Keeping the skin protected from UV rays is the first piece of advice you will hear from your skin professional. Make sure your sunscreen is classified as broad spectrum, which helps to protect the skin from both UVA and UVB rays, and choose a lotion with a sun protection factor of 15-30. The Environ sun care range contains a sophisticated formula that helps provide UVA and UVB protection while not inundating the skin with unnecessary chemicals. The sun care range contains advanced ingredients which work in synergy to assist in providing sun protection for the skin before, during and after sun exposure. Essential antioxidants, which assist in reducing the skin’s sensitivity to the effects of external influences and ingredients known to help with hydration of the skin, have been selected for this range. Feed the Skin Prevent visible signs of damage with the right ingredients. Your skin care should have a form of Vitamin A, C and E inside in addition to antioxidants, peptides and growth factors (They work most effectively in conjunction with one another.) The skin is continuously depleted of these vital vitamins and antioxidants, thus it is important to replenish the skin daily with effective topical formulas. Vitamin A, a widely-researched skin care ingredient, is known to improve the effects of prior skin damage to the skin, to help prevent future sun damaged appearance and assists in replenishing the body of depleted Vitamin A levels. Environ’s motto: Start low, and go slow- with Vitamin A! Both the beginning and advanced skin serums contain increasing concentrations of the vitamin, and it continues to serve as the cornerstone ingredient for many Environ formulas. Quench the Skin Winter or summer, there are many factors that may contribute to dry skin including lack of moisture in the air, sun damage, water-intake, in addition to chlorine & salt-exposure. Post-shower, always apply a vitamin-rich body lotion or body oil to lock in moisture. You want to look for lotions or oils that contain similar ingredients to that of your face moisturizers- hyaluronic acid, Vitamin E, lactic acid, and non-comedogenic oils. Environ body lotions and vitamin-enhanced oils nourish the body with a combination of potent vitamin extracts, antioxidants, and hydrating elements. Clean the Skin Remove makeup, cleanse and tone the skin daily with gentle, nourishing products. Once a week or so, take the time to exfoliate regularly in order to help rid the skin’s surface of dead skin and dirt, which impede the ability of topical skin care products to be effective. Lactic, mandelic, asiatic and glycolic acids are just a few exfoliating agents that are both gentle enough to use regularly once the skin is in a healthy-appearing state and is approved by your dermatologist. The Environ Revival Masque employs such effective ingredients. The award-winning masque works to gently loosen the glue-like ceramics on the surface. It is approved for use as a 20-minute treatment or as an intensive overnight masque. The Beauty Industry Effect Beauty is marked is so many different ways. Despite a common misconception that those working in the beauty industry seek to point out others’ flaws, it is very much the opposite.
